The movie planned as a sequel to the super hits ‘The King’ and ‘The Commissioner’ both filim directed Shaji Kailas and scripted by Renji Panikakr. A lawyer by qualification, Mammootty has always wanted to be an actor and his first screen appearance was in Anubhavangal Paalichakal in 1971. But it was after eight years that he made his actual debut with Vilkanundu Swapnangal. Within five years Mammootty had acted in more than 150 films and donned various roles.
He turned a mass hero with huge crowd-pulling charm after three years in the industry. The unique thing that separates Mammootty from his contemporaries is that from the beginning he has been able to treat both art and commercial movies with ease. It was his acting talents coupled with his willingness to go to any extent to rationally portray the roles that helped him to be successful in both commercial and art movies. Best known as an actor, Mammootty has received many major awards for his performances.
These include three National Awards, seven Kerala State Film Awards, and ten Filmfare Awards. In 1998, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri for his contributions toward Indian cinema.
