Although not a very good idea in real life (after all, who’d want to be locked away for the next decade or so?), there’s nothing stopping you from becoming a master thief or criminal mastermind in the life simulation, the Sims 3! Like any other career track, rising to the top of the criminal career track is no piece of cake; you’ll have to befriend contacts and accomplices, suck up to your boss (your criminal mastermind/planner, perhaps?), complete opportunities and above all, hone your athletic ability until it’s finely tuned (for running away from the coppers, eh?) But in the end, whoever says crime doesn’t pay is sorely mistaken. Perks: The main benefits from the criminal career track come from the Master Thief branch; from tier 7, Safecracker, onwards, the Master Thief gains the ability to sneak. Sneaking is best used in conjunction with the Kleptomaniac trait; it means that people are less likely to notice you swiping their stuff when you visit a lot late at night and use the Swipe interaction. From tier 8 onwards, Bank Robber, the thief also gains a chance to bring back medium to high priced decoration items from work, which can be sold as a profit or used to decorate your home.
Downsides: Of course, being in the criminal career track means there’s always a chance the cops will come in and bust you! Whilst working, there’s a small chance that the police will conduct a raid and arrest you; if you see a blue-uniformed policeman enter your workplace while you’re working, you know you’re busted. Your sim will get sent to jail for a period of time; there, although your needs will be mostly taken care of, missing work by being in jail constitute a missed work day, and can drastically lower your work performance. Also, the top tier of the Evil track, Emperor of Evil, makes your sim radiate a red aura; this constantly reduces relationship with sims in the same lot, as well as negating the Long Distance Friend lifetime award and Everybody’s Best Friend charisma skill reward. However, Evil sims are delighted by this aura, whilst good sims are even more disgusted, and cowardly sims, well, cower.
