My linux server is having very odd behavior in the past few months, and I still could not figure out what's the problem on it. A few months ago, we had a dual P3 800 server with 1GB RAM running RedHat 8 (kernel version 2.4.21) with many services like httpd (with mod_perl) and php, jakarta tomcat, sendmail (with mailscanner), webmin among others. The machine was running fine with no much loadavg at all, but it used to simply crash at least once per day, with no time pattern, and with no loadavg pattern, that is, even with the machine running with very low loadavg, it used to crash! Looking for an answer, I could'nt find anything because there were no error messages in the kernel log (it is not an oops) nor in the console, nor in any log of the softwares running on the machine, there was no message at all. The only way to put the server back to work is pushing the reset button.
